A Highways Engineer is required for a Civil Engineering consultancy to work within their growing Highways team to be base din their York office.

The Role

Right now, we have an exciting opportunity for a Highways Engineer- which comes with flexible working and a range of benefits.

As Highways Engineer, which reports to our Section Head, you will have the chance to act as a highway designer on a variety of road, industrial and rail infrastructure design projects using UK standard design software including highway realignments, lifts to rail over bridges, temporary diversion alignments, external works and junction improvements, all to DMRB standards. The role will involve mentoring and checking work of others and managing the delivery of project elements

The team totals 8 staff and comprises a mix of Principal, Senior and Graduate Engineers supported by Engineering and CAD Technicians and current projects include; Avonmouth EfW, Micklefield Platform 1 Extension, TRU GRIP3OS. Potential future projects include; Trout Farm Level Crossing, Gatwick GRIP 5 to 8, Dawes Coke and Coal Plant Oxford level crossing closures (3), Bardon Hill Quarry, Aberdeen and Tees Valley EfW.

There is an opportunity for the role development to become a Senior Engineer subject to performance.

About You

  • Graduate Civil Engineer with 2.1 degree, preferably masters
  • Chartered or approaching chartered status with either ICE or CIHT
  • Proven experience in highways engineering
  • Bentley MX Road/Civils 3D - expert user for highways design
  • Working knowledge of BIM
  • Proficient in computer aided design
  • Knowledge of drainage design principles and preferable some experience with MicroDrainage
  • A good knowledge and understanding of health and safety and CDEM requirements
  • Teamwork - ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Self development and developing others. Takes a positive view of own development and that of others
  • Motivation - Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision
