Highways Design Engineer (various levels)

Southampton

£££ highly competitive

The way we live our lives is changing fast: where and how we live, work, travel, shop, relax and socialise. The evolving nature of our society means we all need to shape our environment to meet a complex array of individual and collective needs.

Wherever investment in these environments is needed, my client works in partnership with Local Authorities to consult, finance, design, build and manage the essential place infrastructure that local communities and national economies need to prosper and grow.

They are right at the heart of a dynamic 'place shaping' agenda that brings Local Authorities, local communities, Central Government, and the Private Sector together to create safe, sustainable, flexible and dynamic public spaces geared to community social need, economic growth and personal well-being as well as being environmentally sustainable - as such, they have an important and strategic Highways design role that needs filling to continue the success.

  • The Design Engineer will work closely with the internal and external stakeholders to develop concept and feasibility solutions to truly place shaping, transformational projects. Supporting customers and colleagues to develop innovative, sustainable design solutions to help secure funding opportunities secure pipeline projects and provide "shovel ready" projects. These projects could be public realm, transport and traffic, accessibility or regeneration schemes;

  • The Engineer will deliver professional services in a range of situations to meet professional standards, customer needs and business needs and expectations. The role will blend technical design engineering with a creative approach to reshaping the places in which we work.

Why work for us?

Day in, day out, our teams deliver amazing projects in challenging conditions; developing, managing and maintaining the vital infrastructure and public spaces that modern economies, societies and communities rely on - on a daily basis we change people's lives, and we think that is pretty amazing, day to day however you can expect to:

  • Lead the development and delivery of projects made up of a number of work packages, coordinate the activities of a number of engineers and other staff;
  • Ensure that all designs and engineering work is carried out in compliance with industry, customer and business standards, conventions and quality/safety requirements and legislation;
  • Develop awareness of relevant current and emerging design methods/standards and evidence of the benefits they may offer to design objectives;
  • Develop new solutions, and build/extend a catalogue of standard solutions to design and construction problems and challenges;
  • Use all available tools to explore opportunities for innovative and sustainable solutions where appropriate and lots lots more.

If you are a qualified engineer with an excellent creative capability and have experience in budget management, staff management and have demonstratable evidence of previous similar works and maybe a PM qualification… why not come be a part of it?
