Job description

This exciting and unique opportunity exists to join our client, a well known Design and Build contractor operating within the Rail Industry.

We are seeking an individual to undertake the national leadership of the Permanent Way discipline throughout the UK.

This position involves offering support and advice on the design and implementation of P-way schemes whilst also coaching and mentoring of staff. Further duties will include :

Provide advice and support to project teams (including at tender stage) where Permanent Way related works are applicable specifically undertaking peer reviews and readiness reviews of track installation design and methodologies proposed, including review of resourcing and overall team competency, highlighting any risks or shortfalls in the planning and providing guidance on control measures and management of interfaces with track.

Ensure regional teams have an awareness of the key activities and risks associated with the design, planning and implementation of Permanent Way works. This may be achieved through training and awareness sessions or involvement in the development of particular schemes with each region.

Ensure project teams that are undertaking Permanent Way works are aware of the AMP process, by providing training and guidance as required.

Develop ongoing channels of communication with the regional teams and develop a system to identify when Permanent Way works are taking place.

Support the regional teams in undertaking optioneering reviews where required, to identify the most economic overall solutions involving track.

Maintain a central relationship with our Permanent Way supply chain to ensure we have the right suppliers in the associated regions. This includes ensuring that we are receiving a workforce with appropriate competencies and experience for the work being undertaken.

Ensure the competency of Track Handback Engineers through ownership and implementation of the Track Handback Process.

Mentor Track CRE's and Track Handback Engineers.

Candidates will have previously held a similar position within the P-way Discipline and have a thorough understanding of working within the rail industry. You will have an in-depth understanding of track engineering principles, construction methods and will be a member of a professional body (eg PWI).
