Position: Estimator (M&E)

Location: Hertfordshire, with regular site-visits to Essex

Salary: Negotiable + Benefits

Our client is looking for an experienced Estimator (M&E) who will come on board and report directly into the Business Development Director, allowing you to take full accountability and ownership of the role.

You will work in developing cost-effective tenders to meet identified client needs, mainly focussing on improvements to rail stations, both building and platform works.

This role will allow you exposure and further experience in a civil and rail engineering environment, which will afford you specialized skills and experience, in working toward the growth of rail infrastructure within the UK.


  • The preparation and management of tenders from receipt of documents through to delivery
  • The effective registration, control and administration of tender documentation
  • The presentation of tenders to senior management at tender review meetings
  • Liaison with the Supply Chain team in respect of placing supplier / subcontractor enquiries
  • Technical and commercial appraisal of construction labour, plant, materials and temporary works
  • The effective analysis and pricing of risks
  • The preparation of tender submission documents
  • The preparation of estimating reports
  • Providing assistance to proposals and contract management functions


  • HND degree qualified or a related discipline - Essential
  • Proficiency in the use of Excel and estimating software
  • Experienced working in a civil engineering and rail environment
  • Individuals will have a technical understanding of civil engineering processes and will have a history of successfully winning a variety of projects
  • You must be willing to travel to site on a regular basis
  • Must have access to own transport and a valid drivers license
  • Possess a comprehensive contracting and estimating background within a commercial industrial construction environment
  • Possess an understanding of the construction process including the importance of innovative solutions
  • Ability to coordinate a multi-disciplinary Bid Team when required
  • Have an analytical approach, able to understand & follow good estimating procedures, be well organised, self-motivated and able to work alone or within a team
