Job description

Our client have an immediate requirement to appoint Estimators to join their successful Estimating team, to assist with the procurement of contracts in accordance with the company estimating procedures.

You will be working in a fast paced, varied role, tendering for a variety of projects within ground investigations and drilling and grouting, varying in value.

Applicants should have a background of working within the ground investigation, civil engineering or construction sectors and we are open to applications either from individuals who are currently working as Estimators or from those who are keen to develop a career in Estimating and have a civil engineering background.

Key Tasks

  • Working as part of a team, duties include but are not limited to;
  • Reviewing tender documents
  • Producing technical and commercial submissions that are accurately priced, clearly detailed, competitive and returned within the required timescales
  • Managing all stages of the tendering process from receipt of enquiry through to the return of the completed tender
  • To liaise with the Commercial, Operations, and Technical departments
  • Attending meetings with clients, subcontractors, senior management and team members
  • Visiting sites as necessary
  • Assisting with Planning & completion of tender stage programmes
  • To obtain accurate and up to date materials and sub-contractor quotations
  • To support liaison with potential Clients & Engineers providing information and solutions
  • To maintain the Enquiry Database with up to date information e.g. tender follow up records & updating enquiry status
  • To assist other Estimators and Regional Managers with completion of bids as required
  • To assist with the preparation of hand-over packages (CR14'se)

Knowledge and Experience required

  • You should be well organised and relatively independent and have a strong focus on problem solving, with the ability to work under pressure.
  • The successful candidate will be flexible and keen to take a pro-active role.
  • You will need to have a good understanding of the geotechnical and environmental industries, and a good commercial awareness to understand key standard forms of contract (ICE, ICC, NEC), standard specifications and methods of measurement
  • Excellent communication skills are a must, along with ensuring good client relations, as you will be liaising with clients and engineers
  • Excellent computer skills particularly Excel and Project are essential
  • You will ideally have a minimum of 3 years' experience of working within the Ground Investigation market, including trial pitting and drilling supervision
  • In addition to the above, you will need a degree level qualification in geology or civil engineering, be in possession of a full clean UK driving licence, together with good attention to detail and the ability to work both as part of a team and alone, to ensure deadlines are met
