Business Development Manager / Estimating Bid Manager - Leicestershire (East Midlands) - Civil Engineering industry - £50,000 to £55,000 Per Annum + Car + Package.

Our client, a national Civil Engineering contractor within the built environment, is currently searching for a Business Development Manager / Estimating Bid Manager, to join their East Midlands team, on a permanent basis. They are a specialist materials and solutions contractor, within the construction and infrastructure sectors, who have assisted with the construction of some of the UK's largest Infrastructure schemes, typically working within the Aviation, Construction, Energy, Highways, Rail & Water sectors. This role will focus on promoting and supporting the commercial aspect of the business, develop relationships with new and existing clients, whilst managing the tendering/bid process, winning new contracts and seeing work through to delivery.

The role will include:

  • Being accountable for the development of key business unit's and the commercial strategies shared within the company, supporting the delivery of commercial elements, inline with company strategies and business growth plans.
  • Managing, mentoring and providing guidance to your relevant business unit and commercial team (Estimators - various levels), ensuring that key deadlines and objectives are met, which in turn will help to deliver Commercial strategy.
  • Manage your team and ensure that competitive tenders are submitted on time and to the required quality
  • Identify and secure commercial opportunities, to deliver budgeted volumes, margin expectations and growth.
  • Reporting into an overall Commercial Manager.
  • Working with internal directors, general managers and members of the commercial team, to identify, secure and deliver targeted work.
  • Building relationships with externals customers/clients, intermediary bodies and members within the supply chain.
  • Visiting new and existing customers/clients.

In this role, you will be accountable for:

  • The development and delivery of the business unit's commercial strategy.
  • Taking a lead role in identifying and securing a pipeline of commercial opportunities/work load.
  • Ensuring that quality & competitive tenders are submitted and that key contracts are won.
  • Undertaking pre-contract commercial reviews with the Operations and Commercial teams.
  • Identifying further opportunities and risk within proposed future contracts.
  • Managing the production and submission of all tender information relating to commercial functions.
  • Encouraging and promoting the use of alternative sustainable internal materials.
  • Managing and developing beneficial commercial relationships with new and existing customers/clients.
  • Helping to develop the company and expand market share in line with commercial strategy.
  • Ensuring that policies and procedures (including health and safety) are adhered to, and that all work is fully compliant with set legislation.
  • Coaching, leading, managing and motivating the Commercial team.

In this role, you will be expected to:

  • Deliver business objectives.
  • Increase and secure workload, generating margin for the company.
  • Maintain price and market share, business results, cash flow etc.
  • Increase success rate of tenders, future work bank/secured workload.
  • Identify potential risks and opportunities within the contract and strategies to manage them.
  • Effectively manage the submissions process.
  • Be responsible and accountable for the delivery of the commercial objectives and business plan in line with business unit and national strategies.
  • Operate entirely within the requirements of the Company's Processes, Policies and Procedures.
  • Monitor the production of competitive tenders and ensure compliance with internal review procedures.
  • Develop a full understanding of customer needs and structure bids in line with their requirements.

Candidates will ideally:

  • Hold a relevant qualification in Civil Engineering or within another similar sector.
  • Have strong commercial experience within Estimating, Tendering/Bidding & Business Development.
  • Be commercial are and have strong contractual knowledge.
  • Have strong leadership, communication, negotiation and analytical skills.
  • Have competent industry and local market knowledge (East Midlands region).
