Job description

Environmental Advisor - Coventry, Warwickshire - construction/infrastructure - working on enabling works for HS2.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:
* Establish and promote best practice in health, safety and environmental matters in conjunction with the SHQE department.
* Advise and support Project Management and Supervisors in discharging their responsibilities towards the environment and respond to queries or correspondence on environmental issues.
* Ensure employees are aware of their statutory duties and responsibilities and understand the requirements of the Group Environmental Procedures and Guidance Notes.
* Support site management teams to ensure compliance with all requirements stipulated in the Environmental Management Plan.
* Undertake regular contract/ yard environmental inspections to monitor compliance with environmental legislation and company environmental procedures and ensure environmental controls are in place and working.
* Log, monitor and investigate any environmental Incidents and Non-conformances. Ensure major environmental incidents are reported to senior management and the Group Environmental Manager in a timely manner according to Group procedures, and to statutory authorities if necessary.
* Collate Business Unit / Contract Environmental and Sustainability statistics in a timely manner and submit to the HSQE Manager/ Environmental Manager /Group HSQE for reporting purposes
* Review environmental sustainability and incident statistics to identify trends and areas for improvement. Develop and implement Project / Contract Environmental campaigns and improvement plans in agreement with the HSQE Manager/ Environmental Manager
* Produce Contract Environmental Management Plans, Site Waste Management Plans, Environmental Procedures and other contract specific environmental plans and/ or site-specific environmental instruction.
* Identify significant environmental impacts for contracts/ yards and help set-up contracts/ yards to include appropriate controls.
* Identify any environmental consents/ permits or exemptions that are required and ensure they are obtained.
* Maintain records as necessary to ensure compliance with Legislation, Company procedures and Contract Requirements
* Provide Project Manager's with regular and accurate details on all environmental matters affecting their contracts
* Identify employees that require environmental training, provide relevant training and maintain records of training provided.
* Support the HSQE Manager/ Environmental Manager in the delivery of the Group Audit Programme.
* Undertake internal Business Unit / Project audits as required.
* Providing input into pre-qualification, tender and HSQE award submissions
* Stopping work with the agreement of the Project Manager any time compliance with environmental legislation is in question

Qualifications/experience required:-
BSc / MSc in Environment-related subject
Associate Member of IEMA/ IES/ CIWEM (or similar).
Full driving licence (essential)
Good understanding of environmental legislation relevant to the construction industry (essential)
Good understanding of the requirements of the ISO 14001 standard (desired)
ISO 14001 Auditor trained (desired)
