Environmental and Sustainability Advisor - construction/civil engineering/rail - Hertfordshire-base, multisite - £30k-£37.5kk+package

Role
This role provides an excellent opportunity for an individual to be part of a growing engineering business with scope for progression into a management role. The role shall involve providing technical environmental, sustainability and quality assurance advice to operational and support staff as well as assisting the SHEQ Department in developing and delivering its corporate and client driven sustainability strategies and plans.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities
* To be the lead for sustainability and assurance in the Western and Wales region.
* To provide advice and assistance to staff and employees on sustainability and assurance issues.
* To undertake audits and inspections.
* To support operational teams in their application for environmental permits and consents
* For liaising with employees, Clients and third parties such as environmental regulators
* To support the SHEQ Department in the development of internal systems, and in the pursuit of SHEQ strategy objectives.
* To undertake sustainability training.
* To provide regional sustainability and assurance input into the tendering process
* To collate sustainability and assurance data and support site teams with implementing Client sustainable development plans.
* To maintain good communications with the regional health and safety and operational teams and the Head Office SHEQ team.

Person Specification
Candidates for this role should be effective team members and meet the following criteria:
* Have at least 5 years' experience in the civil engineering sector, in a sustainability related role.
* Have a good working knowledge of ISO9001 and ISO14001.
* Have as a minimum a good working knowledge of waste, ecology, noise and works in or around water risks and controls.
* Be a trained quality and environmental auditor.
* Have an excellent knowledge of environmental legislation.
* Be familiar with the environmental consenting processes and will have experience of applying for flood risk activity permits, marine licences, s61 and protected site consents as a minimum.
* Be able to understand and interpret environmental data and be able to summarise information into various formats, such as reports and presentations.
* Be a confident communicator.
* Be supportive, helpful, pragmatic and considerate.
* Be a conscientious person who can manage their own workload to meet tight deadlines.
* Be a good team player who will work with the other SHEQ team members in providing a quality service to employees and our Client.
* Take pride in their work and the service they provide to others.
* Have an excellent work ethic.
* Have excellent IT skills, especially Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and preferably Visio.
* Have a sustainability specialism that they can bring to the team.
* Be able to be flexible regarding travel, occasional overnight stays and work pattern.

Educational/Professional Qualifications:
Degree educated (or equivalent) in a civil engineering or environmental field.
IEMA, CIWEM or IEEM member.
CSCS card preferable.
Personal Track Safety (PTS) card desirable
