The Rail and Civil Engineering team at a leading UK company are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to join their Northern business unit for Asset Management, Infrastructure projects throughout the Northwest region. The team are involved in multi-disciplinary civil engineering works, which include bridges, embankments, stations, platforms, tunnels and more. The team are involved in tendered projects as well as projects within their long-term framework / contract agreements with key clients.

Existing contracts include rail building and civils frameworks, minor works and Environment Agency frameworks with works typically including bridge re-construction/replacement, upgrades and refurbishments, station work (platforms, access for all etc.), structures including bridges, tunnels, and footbridges.

As Engineering Manager (CEM) you will be working within the framework and project delivery teams, responsible for managing the design delivery process for both the internal design team and external designers, primarily dedicated to schemes within the local framework but also providing support to other projects in the Northwest.

You Will Typically Be Responsible For

You will be responsible for managing the engineering process throughout the project lifecycle, working closely with the Project Manager and CRE(s), reporting to the Contracts Manager for the associated project/ programme of works.

  • Review the remits.
  • Develop and agree the relevant engineering processes and deliverables for the complexity and scale of projects to enabling the right solution to be provided.
  • This will be undertaken and agreed with the associated Network Rail DPE of the works, in accordance with Governance of Railway Infrastructure Projects (GRIP)
  • Prepare and manage design reviews.
  • Arrange and attend meetings as required with the client, designers, and colleagues to secure design and implementation.
  • Review project generated documentation including CPPs, WPPs, TBs, Specifications, and drawings.
  • Providing approval for construction methodologies
  • Brief out changes to standards to the project team(s) throughout the lifecycle of the project/ programme of works.

Requirements

  • To excel in being an Engineering Manager, you will have been accepted as a CEM (Contractors Engineering Manager) within a contracting organisation & have extensive railway project experience.
  • BSc / MEng / MSc in Civil Engineering
  • Chartered Member of a relevant and recognised professional industry body i.e. ICE
  • Experience as CEM / Engineering Manager in a multi-disciplinary rail contracting environment.
