Job description

Ecologist - Peterborough - Permanent role - Water Industry - £26,000 to £32,000 Per Annum (Salary is negotiable on experience)

Our client, a large Civil Engineering contractor who typically operate within the Water & Infrastructure sector, is currently looking for an Ecologist to join their team on a permanent basis, in the Peterborough area. The role that have will include developing the existing ecological and arboriculture frameworks, ensuring best practice and consistency in the approach to survey, assessment and mitigation strategies across the framework. In this role, you will also be required to provide technical expertise/guidance to the design and construction teams, enabling successful and efficient delivery of relevant schemes. The applicable candidate will assist with providing strategic direction across large programmes of work, advising on relevant consenting processes and strategies.

Daily duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Building strong relationships with framework suppliers to ensure a proportionate risk-based approach and consistency in its application.
  • Working collaboratively with the wider Team to determine ecological risks to scheme delivery.
  • Preparing reports for internal design purposes, to support planning submissions and Environmental Impact Assessment Screening Opinions.
  • Working in a collaborative way with Design Engineers, Construction Teams, External Stakeholders and the Client to deliver schemes on time, on budget and with minimal environmental impact.
  • Attending external stakeholder meetings to promote and explain proposals.
  • Using digital technology to drive innovation and efficiency within the team, the wider business and local planning authorities.
  • Keeping up to date with legislation associated with the water industry and infrastructure planning.
  • Providing training and guidance on ecology to the team and wider business.

Candidates will ideally:

  • Have previous experience in a similar role, working on infrastructure/non-infrastructure design and construction projects.
  • Have experience in using Geographical Information Systems (GIS) packages (such as ArcGIS, QGIS, MapInfo) for geoprocessing and visualisation of data.
  • Have experience in technical/analytical report writing.
  • Hold a relevant qualification (i.e. BSc/MSc) within Ecology, Nature Conservation or Bio-diversity
  • Be a member of a relevant professional body such as CIEEM (Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management)
  • Be chartered or working towards chartership status (CEcol/CEnv etc)
  • Hold relevant EPS (European Protected Species) survey licence (GCNs/Bats etc)
