Our client, a large, established and growing principal contractor within the Civil Engineering sector, is currently recruiting Digital Engineers / Earthworks Surveyors, to join their team, to deliver upcoming works on the HS2 scheme, largely related to earthworks + drainage and structures.

These roles will entail helping to deliver various projects where workload will range from Earthworks & Bulk Muckshift to Drainage, Highways & Structures etc, with typical project values ranging from £20 Million to £100+ Million.

The role would suit an experienced Digital Engineer, with strong background in Civil Engineering, who is interested in working on the HS2 scheme. Daily duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Organising and recording Original Ground Level and Topographic surveys, comparing details with Client construction models, recognising, identifying and recording change.
  • Analysing construction earthworks models (preparing revised earthworks schedules) and comparing them with tenders - recognising, identifying and recording change, in model and volume change.
  • Checking new designs models vs drawings and report changes, identifying any issues with Client 3D model.
  • Editing design models and liaising with the Earthworks Manager for formal acceptance through the clients commercial process.
  • Analysis of DIGGER outputs (Digital Graphical Earthworks Reporting), including construction material volume modelling, in layers topsoil, subsoil, granular, bulk etc.
  • Identifying and analysing additional volumes or changes from drawings.
  • Tracking and recording daily and weekly volume movements and materials type / classifications either through DIGGER or via traditional survey methods / data (all material types and in addition to load counting volumes manually).
  • Recording and analysing volumes required to fill soft spots, ensuring theoretical fill volumes are understood, and recorded prior to filling. Record volumes and notify PM team of status. Record volumes required to fill soft spots.
  • Identifying stockpiles and ensuring volumes are tracked in to and out of stockpiles (granular or topsoil), recording volumes and notifying the project management team of status.
  • Ensuring surveyors check via modelling / survey fill areas, prior to filling, recording actual fill volumes, comparing data with theoretical / survey volumes.
  • Analysing weekly surveys to record total weekly volumes of materials moved.
  • Ensure that methods are adopted, so that material wastage can be recorded, overall monitoring wastage to ensure that the maximum of 8% wastage is not exceeded. If exceeded, logging the reasons why and putting recovery plans in in-place.
  • Material reconciliations to be undertaken and recorded on a daily / weekly basis.
  • Analysing records of any hard materials, foundations, buried structures or obstructions and notify as required.
  • Accurately compiling high-volume survey data.
  • Updating a master survey model daily, with daily quality checking, also updating material tracking documents.
  • Loading and managing machine and engineering setting out, running volume calcs as pre-agreed intervals.

The ideal candidate will have 5 to 10 years' experience in this sector and salary is negotiable on experience.
