Salary: Circa £42,000 to £50,000 + Per Annum + Package (Salary negotiable on relevant experience)

Our client, a growing Civil Engineering Contractor who operate within the Water & Wastewater sectors is currently recruiting a Design Team Lead on a permanent basis, to help deliver upcoming Clean and Waste Water projects part of the AMP7 cycle. In this role, you will be responsible for the production and management of Design Deliverables for combing Mechanical, Electrical and Process schemes. You will report into a Regional Design Manager whilst supporting a Project Manager, providing a feasible design package of works.

Daily duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Ascertaining Clients requirements either through reference to specification documents or through visiting sites.
  • Determining operational requirements and proposing appropriate solutions.
  • Working alongside the Design Manager and where applicable, the Project Manager, to ensure scheme designs are value engineered, whilst adhering to client specifications, whilst retaining appropriate levels of operational security and full compliance with all relevant Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
  • Providing outline and detailed engineering from inception to completion, utilising design partners, individual knowledge, site installation and construction personnel.
  • Leading and promoting innovation, challenging clients, design partners and the supply chain, where require, to ensure cost effectiveness in both design solutions and design activities.
  • Managing, mentoring and developing Design Engineers, in conjunction with the Regional Design Manager, who has responsibility to closely coordinate design production between in house design teams, external design companies, supply chain and client designers.
  • Preparing design budgets and programmes for all design activities.
  • Ensuring all design work is completed to agreed programmes, financial budgets and KPI's.
  • Preparing and reviewing detailed calculations, to prove proposed designs, where applicable.
  • Liaising with client's engineering staff & design consultants to ensure designs are approved, within agreed timescales (contractual).
  • Attending internal and external design reviews and where applicable, progress meetings.

Candidates will ideally:

  • Have experience of working in a similar role, within the Water and Wastewater processes sector (AMP6/7 ideal).
  • Have an industry applicable ONC/HNC/B.Eng or NVQ equivalent.
  • Be Chartered or pursuing chartership with 5+ years' experience within the water industry, having co-ordinated design at all stages.
  • Possess a working knowledge of Microsoft packages (experience with AutoCAD software would be an advantage).
  • Have a strong working knowledge of BIM / PAS 1192.
  • Have a working knowledge of CDM regulations.
  • Have experience with AMTECH.
  • Have experience of generating control philosophies, User Requirement Specifications (URS documents) and Functional Design Specifications (FDS documents), to client briefs and specifications.
  • Have previously used proprietary software to generate lighting design.
  • Have selected and appraised suppliers and their design submissions.
