Design Manager / TWC - Rail -  Permanent position and 6 Month Contracts available

Role
Following a period of substantial growth we are looking fill the role of Design Manager to work on projects valued up to £5m each for Network Rail, or Associated Railway clients across several frameworks This person will preferably have strong temporary works experience.

Key Responsibilities
Design Management
• Manage design process for allocated projects.
• Liaise with Designers and Delivery team to ensure that design deliverables and timescales are clearly defined.
• Manage the design change process, ensuring the CEM, CRE and delivery teams are involved in key decision making.
• Review suitability of design which considers 'safe by design' and buildability.
• Work with the Design and Delivery teams to consider design alternatives
• Manage design programme to ensure AFC's are submitted to the Delivery Team to the agreed programme milestone.
• Manage and monitor the progress of submitted design documents and co-ordinate responses to Network Rail via the DRN process.
• Ability to carry out Principal Designer's Representative, where Sisk Rail have been appointed as Principal Designer - for short duration reactive works or framework projects.
• Provide advise and technical support to project team.
• Provide technical support for tenders.
• Produce and maintain a drawing issue register.
• Participate in IDCs/IDRs where required
• Attend meetings with the operations team, client and designers as required and give input on design issues
• Technical input to Inspection & Test plans
Temporary Works
• Carry out Temporary Works duties as the appointed TWC for allocated projects
• Appoint TWS as necessary.
• Attend sites when High Risk activities are taking place.
• Ability to provide training for Temporary Works to TWS.

Health and Safety File
• Liaise with Client and confirm what is to be included in the Health and Safety file and to the agreed format.
• Ensure that the contents of the HSE file is compiled on an ongoing basis, throughout the duration of the project and fully submitted to agreed timescale.
• Review and verify all As-built drawings produced by the Project Designer for inclusion in the HSE file.

Commercial
• Ensure that all design changes and delays to design programme are communicated to the Sisk Project Manager and Site Quantity Surveyor.
Experience & Skills
• Demonstrate sufficient experience in the role of Design Manager and TWC in a rail / construction environment.
• Detailed knowledge of NR's Design Approval process.
• Able to communicate effectively with NR DPE's, Designers and Project staff.
• TWC must have a detailed knowledge and understanding of TW procedure
• Able to work with minimal management support in the role.

Required Qualifications/Training
• Degree in Civil Engineering, HND or HNC
• 5 years' experience working in the Rail / Construction Industry
• Temporary Works
• PTS

Desirable Qualifications/Training
• Professional membership to relevant body (or working towards)
• 10 years' experience working in the Rail / Construction Industry
• CDM for Designers
• CDM Awareness
• Scaffold appreciation
