A large national main contractor has dedicated resources to increasing headcount. They require a result driven and self-motivated Design manager to help manage and direct the design of complex and large value projects from tender stage through to completion of construction stage design information. You will be a key member of the senior project team responsible for the design implementations with internal and external teams.

The perfect candidate would be presentable, command a good level of communication at all levels and have a proven track record of exercising design management duties at tender and construction stage. You will be working on single stage, two stage and negotiated contracts utilising your experience and value engineering principles in developing cost-effective design solutions.

Summary of your role:
• Identify and verify all Client information, develop Contractors Proposals, qualifications list, design information and marketing documentation for the tender and then be able to deliver compliant and innovative designs within these boundaries.
• Take lead on key design team meetings and implement cost effective design solutions
• Develop innovative design solutions to clients' briefs with input from the professional team (consultants) and subcontractors.
• Manage relationships across the project team including client, consultants, and subcontractors and have a thorough understanding of the process and risks/opportunities related to managing the design with regard to Employer’s Requirements, Contractors’ Proposals.
• Be proactive in your approach to value engineering at design stage by keeping up to date with recent legislation and construction trends.
• Take lead on interviews and appointment of the design team.
• Ongoing review of design, subcontractor enquiries & documentation to ensure compliance and identify potential interface issues.

What we require from you?
• Degree qualification and professional qualification e.g., MCIOB, CEng.
• Understanding and coordination of MEP design/systems and their integration within the construction process including an appreciation of current Building Regulations, Fire regulations, WHTM’s, HBN’s.
• Ability to plan, report, organise and project manage, especially in relation to programme output.
• Competent user of MS packages, Asite, 4Projects.
• Experience of 3D design management (BIM) and digital software e.g., REVIT, NAVIS, AutoCAD, Tekla.
