Job description

Working within the planning and technical team the role involves liaising with other internal departments such as land, commercial and sales teams in order to meet the wider business needs.

The key to the role is the ability to understand each site that is brought forward from our land team in terms of its site constraints and opportunities, planning obligations, planning conditions and have an overall strategic thinking of how to achieve effective planning permissions within the timescales set, to budget and to meet the businesses wider needs.

No two schemes are similar and it is important work analysing masterplans, detailed schemes, planning reports and documentation in order to obtain outline, full and reserved matters consents. In order to successfully impact on the business in this role you will need initiative, flair and attention to detail when reviewing information whether it be written or diagrammatic. The position is set up for an individual with previous experience of housebuilding that will enjoy on the job support and training to further their knowledge and expertise in Design and Planning.

Main aspects of the role will involve:

  • Assisting in land acquisition by reviewing planning decisions, planning reports, legal agreements and providing feedback/collated information accordingly.
  • Reviewing initial scheme design compliance to site specific constraints, opportunities, outline approved planning information.
  • Promoting and acting in accordance with Group values, systems, policies and procedures.
  • Strong IT skills in the use of CAD, Excel, Word, Photoshop
  • Strong written report writing skills
  • Knowledge of residential scheme layouts both small scale and sitting within wider masterplans.
  • Knowledge of Local Authority SPD's, design standards, highways standards, planning obligations
  • Able to contribute towards improving the value of layouts in terms of revenue as well and building for life criteria
  • Able to work on own initiative, with the drive to learn and take on individual projects to work autonomously.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships both internally and externally.
