Job description

We are currently recruiting for a Data Centre Engineer for a leading Facilities Service provider, on a large site in Milton Keynes.

Reporting to the appointed Project Site Supervisor, the Data Centre Engineer is responsible for monitoring the day-to-day operational serviceability and functionality of the allocated data centre service delivery areas/maintenance.

Maintaining all assets in accordance with a scheduled programme of works and reactive repairs completed within the documented service level agreements ensuring safety, programme, quality and environmental objectives are met.

To ensure that all works, including those of suppliers and subcontractors are coordinated to deliver on safety, programme, quality and environmental objectives.

You will have a full understanding of the facilities management processes required for a successful Data Centre and be a team member responsible for all M&E activities, including

  • BMS Monitoring
  • Power (UPS, generators),
  • Cooling, CRAC & FCU
  • Fire detection and suppression,
  • Access Control and other building management systems.

Strong technical skills to work through problems in a logical manner and work with both internal and external contractors to ensure our facilities remain in optimum condition.

Support the Supervisor/ technical authority for all of the Data Centre power and cooling mechanical infrastructure.

Ensuring that preventative maintenance is carried out as per manufacturers recommendations

Monitor suppliers and contractors to ensure adherence to SLA's

Support the development of capital and operational budgets for the data centres

Specific Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the works are undertaken in accordance with all HS&E legislation, HS&E Policies, procedures & Minimum Safety Standards, and the site Health Safety and Environmental Plans.
  • Use specialist software to assist in project delivery for example VNexus, CEMATIC Critical Power Monitoring, CAFM, BMS etc.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the facilities management processes required for a successful data Centre operation
  • Competent in the use and operation of the facility BMS including monitoring and report generation
  • Competent in understanding the operation and repair of the facility Power systems (UPS, PSU, Generators),
  • Competent in understanding the operation and repair of the facility Cooling, CRAC & FCU
  • Fire detection and suppression,
  • Competent in understanding the operation and repair of Access Control and other building management systems.
  • Manage subcontractors, service providers & operatives to construct the works safely.
  • Act as the site authorized person, review, produce & monitor Task Control Sheets & method statements for all works
  • Ensure site inductions are carried out.
  • Makes effective use of document control to manage information.
  • Participates in all pre-project activities
  • Implements the day to day plan for all on site operations to accord with contract programmes.
  • Completes all assigned PPM & Reactive tasks and site activities to ensure works are carried out safely and in accordance with the method statements that they remain on target and that problems are notified.
  • Keeps detailed records of site progress such as record sheets, daily diary etc.
  • Have an understanding of cost control.
  • Have an understanding of all commercial & contractual issues. Liaise with commercial staff as appropriate to ensure we meet the best needs of the business.
