Job description

Contracts Manager - Leeds - civil engineering/M&E - established, privately-owned main contractor with extensive operations across Yorkshire. Work includes civil engineering, utilities, maintenance and general building projects, up to £20m.

Purpose of Job:-
Management of all aspects of Contract performance on a visiting basis, to ensure that all projects and staff, at every stage are in control.

Responsibilities:-

Performance
* Work closely with Estimating Bid Managers to ensure that tenders are given correct level of Production input
* Make the right people available to assist in tender production, advising Regional/Sector Business Heads if resources required are not available.
* Assess and advise on requirement for and suitability of "Specialist" input.
* Ensure benefits gained from previous experiences of the business are utilised as applicable.
* Ensuring the successful completion of Contracts
* Ensure safety and environmental standards are maintained as a minimum.
* Achieve the best possible financial result.
* Monitor measure and control time cost and quality, ensuring Clients requirements are met or improved upon, ensuring corrective action is taken where necessary.
* Work closely in conjunction with commercial team on all commercial matters.
* Ensure compliance with Company procedures and standards, taking action as necessary.
* Ensuring overall quality of service to our Customers and, to and from our Suppliers
* Advise Regional/Sector Business Heads on areas for improvement.
* Keep Regional/Sector Business Heads advised on all relevant aspects of performance.

Organisation and People Development
* Development of staff, ensuring training/coaching requirements are identified and carried out and achievement is recognised.
* Ensure all our Staff and Operatives are well informed and feel valued.
* Promote the need for ownership of individuals performance.
* Undertake regular review of staff morale, performance and requirements, ensuring that outcomes are communicated to the individuals as required.
* Ensure formal training process is ongoing and effective, and in addition ensure the provision of requisite coaching and support.
* Advise Regional/Sector Business Heads on all staff performance issues.
* Ensure we are fair in all our dealings.

Development of Internal and External Customer / Supplier Relationships
* Promote networking and team working throughout the Business and with our Suppliers.
* Monitor availability and future requirements for staff and labour, ensuring that the requisite reports on resources are fed back into the Centre.
* Feedback to relevant areas of the Business on all aspects of site performance.
* Ensure the effective communication of innovative ideas - both those that work and those that do not.
* Develop relationships with our suppliers such that they want to work with us rather than our competitors, thus assisting in the receipt of favourable terms and conditions.
* Solicit and ensure the we receive meaningful, two way feedback on performance with Suppliers, utilise their expertise to assist our performance.
* Ensure we make life easy for our Customers, whilst protecting the Company position.
* Encourage and act upon Customer feedback throughout the Project (to end of DLP)
* Deal effectively with Customer problems and complaints, ensuring that the satisfactory solving of such matters are communicated.
* Maintain communication and contact with Customer during DLP, ensuring action on defects are attended to at the earliest "sensible" stage, and in any event that all defects are cleared within the required period.
* Maintain and develop relationships established after the satisfactory completion of the Contract (after end of DLP) to ensure that any future opportunities are converted.
* Keep Marketing and Regional/Sector Business Heads informed on all of the above and any other pertinent Customer matters.
* Actively support and implement business strategies, reporting back on areas requiring further development and improvement.
* Regular review on all aspects of site performance - ref. Monthly Site Management Meeting items.
* Share in the monitoring of Customer perception, effectiveness of all our resources and systems producing ideas for improvement as necessary.
* Assist in the development and implementation of Business Policies and Strategies, ensuring effective communication of same to Site level.

Experience/Qualifications
* Degree or HND/C is likely, or through a trade background.
