Purpose of the role
A leading contractor within the rail industry is seeking an experienced construction manager to help lead and manage a rail-based project to completion while adhering to their objectives. The ideal candidate will have the ability to deliver the project to the desired quality while ensuring that standards of health and safety, environmental and cost are all controlled efficiently. They will have the ability to deliver the project according to the required programme while maintaining maximum commercial performance. This role will require close communication with the commercial department, engineers, and surveyors to ensure project completion with the goal to exceed customer requirements. In this role, you will be expected to:
- Manage the construction team, including subcontractors and suppliers, to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard, assuming overall responsibility for the project delivery.
- Developing and maintaining projects schedules, budgets, and cost estimates.
- Ensure the commercial performance of the contract is maximised.
- Delivery the work safely, without environmental incidents, and to the specified quality without issue.
- Produce and manage the project programme while producing good quality, accurate reports for delivery manager.
- Communicate closely with the commercial department, engineers, surveyors, and the procurement department.
- Take on the responsibilities of the Project Utilities coordinator while managing ground stability temp works across the project.
- Ensure production and implementation of Project plans, RAMS, ITP’s and waste management plans, in line with MMA and company procedures.
- Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time.
The ideal candidate will:
- Have extensive construction and civil engineering experience gained within senior levels of site management positions working ideally within utility, highway, and rail environments.
- Demonstratable experience of working in a design and build culture, new bridge construction and bridge deck replacements, reinforced concrete, drainage, transportation, or structures knowledge.
- Plant, labour and materials management and cost control, with experience of procurement and contract management of packages of construction work.
- Have strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills to act as liaison with local authorities and the client, while also leading several multi-disciplined teams.
- Knowledge of finance systems and cost/budget administration paired with good IT skills for use on several Microsoft packages.
- Working knowledge of NEC, CDM, Design management, Risk management, and cost control. This will include forecasting, actual cost and value reporting.
- Ability to demonstrate the right behaviours and lead the team in line with the company values.
- Knowledge of Primavera P6
Candidates will ideally have:
- A relevant qualification in Civil Engineering or construction (i.e. Degree/HND/HNC or equivalent) is essential.
- Previous experience working in a similar role.
- CSCS Manager Card & SMSTS.
- Chartership or professional membership as ICE (desired)
- Confined space training.
- First aid at work
