Job description

Community Relations Manager - Highways £25'000 - £30'000 per annum

With the new SMART Motorways projects in full effect, relationships between local governments, residents and stakeholders need to be integrated with each other in order to make sure everybody involved and affected is happy with the construction and infrastructure works planned in their area.

Working with the main contractor for one of these projects, I am now recruiting for a Community Relations Manager to work on Highways England's flagship Smart Motorways Programme. The project will involve upgrading pavements, barriers and drainage as well as installation of gantries, emergency refuge areas and technical equipment to the M56 between junctions 6 and 8, to the west of Manchester Airport. The successful candidate will be based in Birmingham for the Design Phase of the project until December 2018 and then move to site in the New Year for approximately 12 months. Candidates will therefore need to be comfortable with both locations, either through travel or lodging away.

The Community Relations Manager is responsible for managing the relationship between the project and external stakeholders including members of the public and the local community affected by the construction of the scheme.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Put Safety above all else - recognise that our first priority is the safety of our people and those affected by our work. This will never be compromised
  • Lead by example in promoting safe behaviour and maintaining and improving culture of health and safety on site
  • Ensure that the public and local community are aware of the specific hazards associated with the works and are kept adequately protected and informed
  • Manage site compound security arrangements

Experience and Qualifications:

Experience in a similar role is a must, but does not necessarily have to be within highways; although this is highly desirable

Ability to work and communicate at all levels in a way that encourages two-way communication

Adopts an organised and systematic approach to work and incorporates flexibility to respond to changes in tasking

Manages multiple tasks
