Location: Various sites throughout East / West Midlands + South Shropshire.

Salary: Competitive + generous package.

Clerk of Works

We have an immediate requirement for a Clerk of Works for one of our premier Clients, a well-established, highly successful and Award Winning Consultancy with multiple Regional Offices, to work out of their Birmingham Office.

Overview:

Our Client is a unique, technology focused, multi-disciplinary Technical and Risk Management Consultancy which supports the Public Sector, Private and Global Blue Chip Corporations to succeed with heavy infrastructure, industrial and major building projects, as well as, retrospective digitisation of existing assets.

Through their market-leading blend of technologies and engineering expertise, they provide advice and professional support services to create, design and manage high performance results for Clients who are undertaking capital investment, acquisition, planning, design, development, construction and refurbishment projects.

The Clerk of Works will be responsible for overseeing the quality and safety of work on site, making sure that building plans and specifications are being followed correctly.

Significant expansion of operations throughout the region has created this requirement for a Clerk of Works to work with their Commercial Team based in their Birmingham Office on various locations (sites) throughout East Midlands, West Midlands & South Shropshire.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performing regular inspections of the work on site and comparing completed work with drawings and specifications
  • Liaise with all Contractors and Consultants, agree quality standards and resolve technical issues
  • Monitor the Contractor's progress against the programme
  • Act as a quality inspector on site
  • Comprehend all drawings and specifications
  • Ensure works are carried out in accordance with drawings and specifications
  • Anticipate and identify any potential difficulties on site
  • Ensure all correspondence is filed in accordance with QA procedures.

Skills / Competencies / Experience / Qualifications:

  • Possess a wide understanding of the building industry, including knowledge of materials, trades, methods and legal requirements
  • Have a good head for heights
  • Be attentive to detail when checking work and materials
  • Be technically competent
  • Have good spoken and written communication skills
  • Be honest and vigilant to make sure that the work and materials meet the required standard
  • Be able to establish an appropriate working relationship with the Contractor's Staff
  • Be persuasive and diplomatic while remaining independent
  • Have good judgement, be able to decide when to insist on corrections, when to persuade or negotiate, and when to compromise
  • Set an example by acting in a professional manner at all times including wearing personal protective equipment when on a construction site
  • Keep up to date with changes in construction methods, statutory legislation and carry out continued professional development (CPD).

The 'ideal' Candidate will:

  • have 5+ years' experience in a similar role
  • possess a good working knowledge of Building Regulations and British Standards
  • be a Chartered Building Surveyor or Member of the ICWCI.
  • have experience in the construction industry (preferably with/for a Contractor, including relevant experience with similar projects)
  • be a good communicator and well organised
  • be computer literate with standard Office applications.
