Buyer Role

Reporting To: Buying Manager

Team: Commercial

Based in: Carlisle

This client is an award winning house building developer, they operate on a regional basis (Cumbria) delivering quality high spec houses from 2 - 5 beds. They deliver between 650 and 850 units a year. They are one of the largest and most highly respected house builders in the UK. Over the course of their time in the construction housing market, they have built an excellent reputation for quality in everything they deliver. This client have a fantastic reputation for quality and they have won a large number of awards. They ensure each employee reaches their full potential within their organisation and they deliver high-quality training programmes to everyone from entry-level trainees to experienced professionals.

Role Purpose:

To manage the end to end buying process, negotiating and assessing products and supplies to gain commercially viable solutions

and practices to maximise profits

Key Accountabilities

Provision of effective supply chain management

Manage the material and supplier tendering process

Production and issue of detailed tender documents that include all relevant information, drawings and specifications

Assessment and sourcing of high quality products and supplies

Management of Site Material budget

Provision of feedback to key colleagues on cost, quality and availability of materials

Gain understanding of exact requirements for each development meeting specifications

Conduct key meetings agreeing specific materials and flow of material requirements feeding into planning submission documentation

Manage and monitor the supply of materials against

requirements and quality standards

and update material supply on appropriate

materials with accuracy and in a timely fashion

Provision of updates on new material developments and availability

Monitor, assess and communicate impacts of future regulatory requirements

Candidate requirements

Ideal but not essential - Good working knowledge of the house building industry

Experience of supply chain management

Function/Title

Experience of managing and negotiating with multiple suppliers

Significant working knowledge of relevant regulations and legislation

Experience of researching building materials

Excellent communication skills

Attention to detail

Good IT skills

Salary Details

Circa £30-35k dependent on experience

25% bonus potential

Car or car allowance

Pension - 5% employer contribution rising to 7% with length of service

34 days annual leave including bank holidays
