Building Surveyor

Project Overview:

The London Borough of Barnet has over 1,500 properties in its portfolio. CSG Estates provides expertise in Estates Management and Valuation, Building Services and Facilities Management to the council and other clients.

The client manage a wide range of projects and caseloads. Including;

  • The implementation of a corporate landlord model for the entire operational estate
  • The introduction of a property investment programme
  • Advising on the viability of land for regeneration
  • Undertaking lease renewals, rent reviews, acquisitions and disposals
  • Managing statutory compliance
  • Project managing schools modernisation programmes
  • Running security teams and deploying facilities management services

About the Role

My client who are a multi-disciplinary consultancy is looking for a Building Surveyor to join their established team in London. This is an exciting opportunity to join a tight knit team, where you will be based in Barnet & working on projects in the council such as library, council buildings and halls, and schools. Your role will see you conducting surveys, dilapidation reports, and providing project management advice, while developing client relationships with a range of stakeholders in Barnet Council.


  • Have responsibility for early stage design and feasibility work
  • Develop detailed briefs in conjunction with the client
  • Carry out detailed design work and deliver building projects up to circa £1.5m
  • Contract administration of building contracts such as JCT minor works
  • Undertake schedules of condition and detailed condition surveys
  • Manage and deliver programmes of work controlling resources, outputs and budgets
  • Responsible for project and budget monitoring.

Your experience will include:

  • MRICS qualified or close to achieving Chartered status
  • Good communication skills with a pro-active nature
  • Have detailed and thorough knowledge of both traditional and modern building construction technology
  • A strong track record as a professional Building Surveyor, showing the desire for a progressive career structure
  • Experience of property refurbishment and maintenance
  • Experience of controlling quality on projects
  • Team player and capable of influencing others to achieve necessary output
  • A broad thinker who can take a commercial view of property and asset management
  • An ambition to drive the business forward and an interest to develop both new and existing services
  • Commercially aware and financially astute individual
