Job description

We are currently seeking an Associate level Landscape Architect for a busy Wiltshire Practice.

This is an exciting new role and one which is key to the future development of the business. As a new Associate you will be responsible for developing the assessment and masterplanning side of the practice, including bringing work in, managing the workload, and developing / refining the existing established office methodologies.

You will be qualified to degree standard and be a Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute (CMLI) and you will already have the following knowledge, skills and abilities needed for this position:

  • A thorough working knowledge of the Planning System and Environmental Legislation.
  • Substantial experience and a thorough understanding of the detailed process involved in preparing Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments for Environmental Statements; and Landscape and Visual Impact Appraisals (LVIA's).
  • A proven track record in the design of housing layouts.
  • Good contacts within the development industry, and the ability and drive to bring work in and to develop this side of the practice.
  • The ability to lead by example, and to manage and educate others in the production of LVIA's and development masterplans.
  • The ability to use good hand drawings to communicate ideas / solutions both in-house and externally without the need to turn to the computer.

A working knowledge of AutoCad, Keyscape, Adobe In-Design, Adobe Photoshop, and Google Sketchup software would also be beneficial, but is not essential as junior staff will support you in in the use of these software packages. Experience of giving evidence at public inquiry would also be a distinct advantage.

  • Sociable, with a good sense of humour.
  • Happy to work with other staff members, both senior and junior staff, to coordinate and guide others in their work, to continue learning, and to work with the directors on the strategic planning and direction of the practice.

Candidates should also demonstrate a broad range of skills and abilities in the design, specification and administration of projects on site, although this is subsidiary to the main purpose of this position.

As with all our team you will be happy to support staff at all levels within the office and to work with multi-disciplinary project teams to develop successful projects; and you will be committed to working with set office systems to ensure efficiency and consistency of management.
