Assistant Quantity Surveyor, Rail: £35k - £40k, Berkshire

We are seeking an ambitious quantity surveyor for a national rail contractor within their London operation working on major Network Rail and London Underground rail projects. This company has grown in a short space of time and are constantly winning over new contracts and have a fast-paced environment. With an international mark in the UK, Africa, India and the Caribbean they have maintained a practice to deliver the highest standards for innovative and robust solutions. Based within a proven commercial team with significant specialist rail experience, you will be exposed to some technically complex and challenging schemes. With a growing order book and a proven history as an Investor In people, this is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to develop their rail career.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work efficiently to help prepare and verify costs and pricing extracted using target and fixed prices and rates on a weekly basis
  • Demonstrate knowledge for preparation, management and delivery of subcontractors to deliver material procurement based on knowledge of costs, estimations and analysis.
  • Knowledge of tendering and procurement reports and analysis, and compiling documents
  • Support and input advice in line with deadlines and project expectations
  • Support the identification and preparation of claim submissions to client
  • Demonstrate knowledge to negotiate, manage and control valuations, suppliers and subcontractors to minimise risks and help resolve variations
  • Work effectively within client and contractor teams

Requirements:

  • Preferred degree qualification in relevant engineering or surveying disciplines, or project management
  • Some NEC experience a bonus
  • Ability to work on site and office based work on projects
  • Working towards an associate or full professional membership with a relevant professional body
  • Background in civil and rail is a huge advantage
  • Tight on managing deadlines, budgets and payments
  • Skilled with understanding correct forms and contracts for work
