Assistant QS required for regional civil engineering contractor based in Greater Manchester

Qualifications required:

HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying
Working towards Full Membership of either RICS or CICES

Essentials
Highways/Civils experience
working knowledge of NEC3 and JCT Contracts
Understanding of Standard Method of Measurement 7
Experience of working with business systems, spreadsheet development, cost analysis, programme evaluation and development, compensation event and/or variations assessment and evaluation.
Experience of company policies, procedures & controls, operating office management systems including filing systems and document control and distribution
Good communication skills
Able to work to strict deadlines
Knowledge and experience of working in the construction industry
Proactive in self-development and professional qualifications
Full Clean Driving Licence
Working knowledge of MS Office and MS Project
Good Presentation Skills

Desirable

Experience of a commercial/engineering role in the construction industry
Experience in preparation and presentation of estimates
Understanding of risk management on both programme and cost

Roles and Responsibilities

Your objective is to ensure the financial interests of the company are always protected yet maintaining a positive working relationship with all parties.
• Site measurements and preparations of weekly cost and production reports.
• Liaise with the site teams to assess and prepare compensation events and claims.
• Liaise and agree with subcontractors’ measures and assist in authorising payment
• The production of valuations and submission to clients
• Assist in negotiation with the clients to facilitate prompt and accurate payments
• Interpret drawings and instructions and agree estimates with site teams and clients
• Liaise with subcontractors to assist in agreeing rates and services
• Assist in agreeing final accounts with all parties in a prompt manner
• Undertake stock control monitoring and provide reports to the Business Director
• Liaise with the finance and admin team in the preparation and settlement of accounts
• Assist the business director and his team in preparation of monthly and quarterly reporting
• Any other reasonable requests from company management

Your objective is to efficiently manage the financial control on site, in an efficient manner.
• Co-ordination with site teams and business centre managers
• Ensure clear, accurate and up to date records are always maintained
• Always represent the company to clients and outside organisations in a professional manner
