Job Description:

Our client, a large Civil Engineering contractor who operate within the Water & Flood Defence sectors, have an excellent opportunity available for Quantity Surveyors to join their growing commercial team on a permanent basis, working on a large framework scheme for one of their key clients.

The role will involve working with the existing commercial team, to manage a multimillion-pound contract, ensuring that the scheme stays within financial parameters and that any changes or early warnings are picked up and resolved with the client.

The scheme involves the design/improvement/construction and overall assessment of flood and costal risk within the noted areas and construction activities will include but are not limited to; flood banks, pumping stations, reservoir improvements, supporting the end client to reduce flood risks across the area.

The role would suit a well organised individual with previous experience in a similar role.

Daily duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring cost control is maintained throughout all functions (procurement, delivery, design etc.).
  • Supporting the project management team in respect of both project and commercial deliverables.
  • Providing support and mentoring Assistant Quantity Surveyors within respective Projects.
  • Preparing sub-contract tender packages, carry out comparisons and place relevant orders.
  • Being responsible for the management, collation, interpretation and analysis of project commercial records.
  • Supporting the Investment Proposal (Target Cost) process through all of the key milestones.
  • Producing monthly cost & value forecasts, including monthly project review reports.
  • Identifying risks and opportunities to project spend / budgets.
  • Providing sub-contractor management to Projects.
  • Producing impact assessments, early warning, risk expenditure and compensation event submissions.
  • Managing the compliance and suitability surrounding processes and procedures on a project basis.
  • Supporting the Lead QS in respect of wider issues.
  • Liaising with the Project Accountants to establish accurate cost and cash neutrality reporting.

Candidates will ideally have:

  • Previous experience in relevant Quantity Surveyor positions managing Civil Engineering and M&E elements of a scheme.
  • Previous experience working within the Water industry, on similar projects such as Flood Defence or Flood Alleviation schemes or have worked in other applicable Infrastructure sectors.
  • A formal qualification in Quantity Surveying or similar (I.e BSc, HND or similar).
  • Be familiar with NEC forms of contract.
  • Be able to manage client budgets.
  • Have strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Strong IT skills with experience of databases and MS Office.
