Job Description
The GIS CAD Technician will work alongside Projects and Practice Team members to provide technical support for GIS CAD software. The GIS Technician will be part of a multi-disciplinary team promoting and implementing traditional urbanism, both educationally and professionally.
Specific duties will include: To manage the implementation, of GIS database for master planning projects (about 10-12 per year), and to be the sole point of contact for GIS queries throughout the Foundation. To provide GIS support for Urban Designers and EbD Managers To coordinate conflicting workloads and time scales in association with Project managers, Urban Designers and EbD Managers To support the CAD Technician during times of increased workload, absence for leave and workshops To contribute to the development of the education programme of the Company in both its school?based faculty programme and its project based learning. Where appropriate to identify potential clients and to assist in the preparation of proposals to provide educational and consultancy advice to them. To provide GIS training to the CAD technician and members of the Projects & Practice team as and when the need arises. To create map-based drawings and diagrams for illustration of technical reports This Company has developed a practical tool for engaging its partners in a design-led process. This process, known as Enquiry by Design, involves working alongside partners and key stakeholders for typically up to five days, although this may be more or less depending on the nature of the project. It is this aspect of the work of this company is that may require the post holder to work unsocial hours during these events and the post holder must be able to travel extensively throughout the UK and occasionally overseas. The essential skills, knowledge and experience required are: Substantial experience of working with GIS in professional environment with formal training and in depth knowledge of a GIS programme Good overall computer knowledge Competent use of AutoCAD or similar vector based programme Extensive network knowledge, to assist in installation of small networks during the EbDs Good oral and written communication skills Experience of day to day involvement of projects A creative approach to solving problems for a fast growing and dynamic organisation that seeks to make a qualitative difference in the built environment. Proven ability to work as part of a team and under pressure Understanding and a genuine interest of the principles of traditional architecture, urban design and regeneration would be advantageous Experience using 3D render programs an advantage Knowledge of scanning software, Photoshop, and PowerPoint would be beneficial
