Engineers will be typically required to work for M&E consultancies, local authorities and other public sector clients. Typically M&E clerk of works jobs involves the surveying and supervision of mechanical and electrical installations including HVAC, hot and cold water, air conditioning, gas boilers, pumps, gas services electrical wiring, lighting, CCTV, and door entry systems.  This includes visual asset and condition surveys, managing sub contractors, overseeing design, post inspection work and ensuring that costs and budgets are met.

With some companies, candidates will be at an advantage if they are able to use PDA or other "hand-held" computer devices.
