Job Description
Principal responsibilities:
" To provide sound technical advice to clients, under the supervision of a Partner or Associate, and keep them informed of progress at all stages of the planning process. " To arrange and attend meetings with clients, Councils, consultants, members of the public etc as required, and where appropriate conduct negotiations. " To produce documents including the following, delegating tasks to Planners and Graduate Planners as appropriate: - planning applications and supporting technical information - planning appraisals, advice letters and general correspondence - appeal submissions, written representations and proofs of evidence - representations to local development documents and other relevant planning guidance/policy in accordance with client requirements " To liaise with and co-ordinate specialist consultants involved in projects. " To track progress of planning applications in preparation and post submission, monitoring committee dates, obtaining consultation responses and contacting relevant experts as appropriate. " To attend Planning Committee meetings as appropriate. " To attend hearings and inquiries, providing information to senior colleagues and taking notes, as required.
Competencies Required:
" Good technical skills, i.e. has relevant, up to date planning knowledge and is able to apply such knowledge in a practical context. " Sound commercial and financial awareness, e.g. works within the agreed fee structure of projects, and understands the importance of business development. " Good organisation and project management skills, e.g. able to multi-task, prioritise, manage time, meet deadlines and tie up loose ends. " Able to delegate work where appropriate and assist in supervision and training of junior planning staff in basic planning skills. " Good interpersonal skills e.g. relate well to clients, business contacts and other members of staff, and can influence to achieve results.
