Job Description
Our client is looking for a Senior Highway Engineer to assist Team Leaders to deliver various highway projects to clients, including the Highways Agency, The Department for Transport and developers and local highway authorities
The role will require taking the lead on design decisions on a range of highways projects, from inception through detailed design to site supervision and completion. Projects include the provision of advice on new design standards and specifications, road safety schemes for local authorities and the Highways Agency, and the preliminary design and detailed design of major trunk road schemes.
The jobholder will be part of a team based in Taunton. The team consists of Technical Directors, Associates, Principal Engineers, Engineers and Technicians and is supported by specialist advice from our clients other offices and Sub-consultants. The jobholder will report to the Team Leader who in turn reports to the Business Group Team Leader. The Highways office in Taunton is a centre of excellence for the design of major highway infrastructure projects. Our client aims to be the first choice designed for contractors on design and build and Early Contractor Involvement schemes.
Main Tasks:
Under the direction of the Team Leaders the jobholder will liaise directly with Clients on development of project scope, outturn costs and progress, project manage small projects, including financial and progress monitoring, prepare feasibility reports and carry out the role of Designer under CDM and coordinate other H&S issues.
The successful candidate will also prepare preliminary and detailed designs and specifications for a range of projects including large trunk road schemes and small projects such as traffic calming schemes, signing and road marking schemes, cycling and walking schemes, junction improvements and other local transport plan projects.
